Dilemmatic – Teaching in the Mountains

Teaching in the pahads (mountains), has triggered a profound shift in my mental and emotional state. I’m starting to question the knowledge and experience I have amassed over the years. It’s as if I’m undergoing a metamorphosis mentally and emotionally to the point that I almost feel lost, giving up to the flow of a tumultuous river, just hoping to regain my footing and have some control over myself and my surroundings.

My training as a Facilitator by some of the most accomplished Trainers and being a high scorer at facilitation in an organisation that is spread across the nation seems trivial now.

One thing is evident, when relocating to a new place, it is crucial to understand its culture, social norms and belief systems. For instance, to raise your voice and spanking a child is commonly practiced by parents here. When this practice has already been ingrained in a child, what do I do?

I guess to study the effects of this behaviour in the long run will be my next task. If it truly is detrimental to the growth of a child which the west proclaims, then hard work and dedication will be required to replace this. But if it doesn’t, should I follow this practice?

Dilemmatic, that’s what I’m feeling.
